Double_Action was founded in 1990 when Harry Sparnaay and Annelie de Man - harpsichord were invited to perform at a concert during an international conference on aeronautics. The organisation commissioned Chiel Meijering, one of the most productive Dutch composers, to write for this extraordinary combination of instruments. He produced a piece called He was a Great Man and he loved Baseball , the great man obviously being Werner von Braun, the father of space travel. The concert pleased the audience as well as the performers so much that they decided to continue the cooperation and to commission composers to write for them. The growing repertoire of Double_Action now includes works by a.o. Roderik de Man(NL), Giel Vleggaar(NL), Vanessa Lann(NL/USA), Michel van der Aa (NL), Raymond Deane(IRELAND), David Vayo(USA), Hope Lee(CANADA), Joe Cutler (GB), Matthias Kadar(F/NL) and Victor Varela(VENEZUELA). To be expected: Selim Dogru (TURKEY) and Klaus Kuiper (NL). Also Irish composer Donnecha Dennehy agreed to write for them.
